Security Consultant (Cyber / SOC)

Location: Canberra
Working Arrangement: On-site with client / hybrid flexibility
Clearance required: NV1 or NV2 (ability to uplift to TSPV desirable)

Job Description

This is a senior consulting role focused on Security Operations (SOC). You'll act as a trusted advisor to government clients, helping them design, improve and mature their cyber security capabilities.

The work is hands-on and strategic. One minute you're shaping a security roadmap, the next you're guiding implementation across people, process and technology. You'll lead engagements, influence senior stakeholders and help clients move from reactive security to proactive defence. This is a very high profile opportunity working with the Cyber, Digital & Data arm of one of the world’s most established defence, aerospace and security organisations

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead cyber security consulting engagements within SOC environments
  • Advise clients on security operations strategy, capability uplift and improvement plans
  • Conduct maturity assessments against industry frameworks and best practice models
  • Design and implement SOC capabilities across people, process and technology
  • Work closely with stakeholders to translate business needs into security solutions
  • Develop policies, procedures and operational processes
  • Support SIEM use case development and onboarding of new environments
  • Oversee solution delivery, ensuring outcomes meet functional and operational requirements
  • Identify, manage and mitigate solution risks
  • Contribute to internal capability development, best practice and lessons learned
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects and delivery teams across the full lifecycle

Education / Certifications required

  • Relevant degree in Cyber Security, IT, Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Industry certifications such as CISSP, CISM, GIAC, or similar are highly regarded

Knowledge / Skills required

  • Strong experience delivering cyber security solutions in complex environments
  • Background in SOC operations, either as a senior analyst, technical lead or consultant
  • Deep understanding of the cyber threat landscape
  • Experience with SIEM platforms such as Splunk or Microsoft Sentinel
  • Knowledge of cloud security (Azure and/or AWS)
  • Experience designing and maturing security operations capabilities
  • Strong client-facing and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to lead teams and manage multiple workstreams
  • Familiarity with IT service management and platforms like ServiceNow or Jira
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
